UFC president Dana White recently suggested that MMA fans switch their cable service provider due to issues stemming from the upstart cable hopeful FUEL TV, and their lack of availability across the board.
“The bottom line is DirecTV has FUEL TV, and it’s in HD,” White recently stated. “If you are a hardcore UFC fan, and you are in either Time Warner or Comcast — and you want it now and you want it in HD — you have to switch to DirecTV.”
During the 2011 calendar year, FUEL TV was cable’s lowest-rated channel — literally. Due to the partnership with UFC, and UFC’s emphasis on FUEL TV-related programming, the cable network has gone from a meager 25 million U.S. homes to approximately 36 million homes in a matter of months.
Those currently tied into Time Warner and Comcast cable deals will likely have to wait until 2013 before FUEL TV is a realistic possibility for your provider.
“Their deal isn’t up for like nine months, meaning FOX doesn’t renew the deals with all those guys for nine months,” White said. “What you can do, if you’re willing to do it, is switch to DirecTV.”
